I arrived yesterday (Sunday) around lunch time and found my way from Flughafen Munchen to the S1 to the U3 and to Ansprengerstaße 2, where a neighbor helped me up to the second floor to find the correct apartment. Then I met Anja and Sebastian!! Funny thing is that Sebastian only speaks and understands spanish and german, so I am getting to practice my Spanish a lot! I unpacked first and played with Sebastian a little, and then we all walked to the park. The parks here are gorgeous! There are also biergartens in every park and the biergartens are packed at all hours... seriously. We passed some tennis courts and they are red clay like the French Open!!! I have always wanted to play on clay and I didnt bring my racquets :(. After the park, Anja prepared gnocchi with vodka sauce for dinner without even knowing it was one of my favorites! They are very big on fresh fruit, so for dessert we had watermelon and strawberries.
For my first breakfast I sat out on the balcony and ate toast with marmalade and drank tea. I took a picture of my breakfast and the view from the balcony :)
I don't see Anja and Sebastian during the day because they leave before 8am and get back around 7pm. So I ate by myself, showered, and then walked a few blocks to the language school because I was eager to meet friends! When I got there, I met Mickey, a boy from south Jersey, and a girl from Cleveland and we ate lunch together. Then class started and we were split into three different classes of 9 or 10 people each. We learned a lot of German for one day! And our class gets along really well. After class, we 7 people from my class and 2 from the other class wandered to a turkish restaurant where we got lunch for 3 euro :) and then we all went to the Englisher Garten and found the biergarten Chinesischer Turm and drank our first German beer! It was quite the experience. We sat together for about 2 hours and talked and shared stories to get to know each other and make plans for touring the city. Everyone is very nice and I think I will be traveling around with some of them. We are also practicing our German on each other as much as possible. The girls I hung out with are Vidushi (from Toronto), Pandina (from Trinity College), Lauren (from UC Berkeley), and Jelena (from Croatia). The boys I was with were Michael (from Long Island), Joshua (from Chattanooga, TN), Hadrien (from Montreal), Xingbo (from Toronto), Chun (from California), and Garrett (from Maine)... they are all so nice and are interested in traveling together. Ok so mom, no worries, I do have friends to eat with and I wont be traveling alone around the city anymore.. Even though I don't mind it.
A cool thing about Germany is that even the trash trucks and ambulances are Mercedes Benz. Also, the polizei cars are green and black, and the ambulances are compact and modern looking and their siren sounds funny. Anyways, busy day tomorrow. Have to do my homework and go to sleep. I am getting my German cell phone set up in the morning and I already have a bunch of people's numbers to add.. I walked all over the city today and we have gorgeous weather here. I hope all is well in the US :) Guten nacht!!!
